Glitching through the portals

The Epitherium seeks courageous wizards by giving mysterious powers. The place originated from the people of the eastern Tigre de Perlas, who believe in “ang pánsamantaláng pagbubunyág” meaning ‘the temporary/ephemerality unveiling’. Ephemerality, 'lasting only one day', is the concept of things being transitory, existing only briefly. Because different people may value the passage of time differently, “the concept of ephemerality is a relative one”. Therefore, one must be patient in solving the powers. They must have the rare power of the 'smartphone' a strange device from another dimension where discover everything in the palm of your hands, unless you have the determination to do so.

Note: Make sure you opened this webpage in the smartphone (iOS devices must be iPhone 6S or later. Android devices must be Samsung Galaxy S6, Sony Xperia Z2 or equivalent, or later) and the printed images in a well-lit place for the 'powers'(augmented reality) to work. You can play the music as seen below as you try out the powers.

The Emphemerality Unveiling

Download the mysterious file here, print with colors, then cut them into cards.

Finally, we have the most interesting part of uncovering this power! You can mix and match the image cards however you want, but to get the full experience, you will need to investigate the blurred cards of four on the pictures seen below:

About

The Project

This final project is a requirement of CMNS3560 - Interactive Media, completed on November 2021. 'Ang Pánsamantaláng Pagbubunyág' or 'The Emphemerality Unveiling' is inspired from the idea of transitory or temporary. With technology constantly changing, this is the best opportunity to learn how to make augmented reality as one of the emerging technology.

Concept

Ang Pansamantalang Pagbubunyang comes from the Filipino language called Tagalog which means ‘the temporary/ephemerality unveiling’. Ephemerality, from the Greek word ἐφήμερος, means 'lasting only one day', is the concept of things being transitory, existing only briefly. Because different people may value the passage of time differently, “the concept of ephemerality is a relative one”. Art can be considered as ephemeral because of their temporary nature, such as sand sculptures, ice sculptures, and chalk drawings. Augmented reality and social media marketing as an ephemeral architecture is seen throughout our current times, such as the short-lived content of Instagram/Snapchat stories that disappears after 24 hours or any trendy AR filters, it strikes the intrinsic motivation of FOMO (Fear of missing out) effect that inclines users to tune in or use the AR experience.

Interactive Design

Ang Pansamantalang Pagbubunyang empowers users to interact with augmented reality, leave them a lasting impression on the things people do, and share their experiences with other friends by posting their pictures or recordings (they can save the video/picture first, then post)! The images are fragment of Aurore Vihalla. Players will have to mix and match five of four pictures to get the complete picture.
